THE ORIGIN
THULODURLUNG, LALITPUR
While in London, we explored numerous premium cafes and exclusive coffee aisles at high-end outlets, only to realize that Nepalese coffee was conspicuously absent. Having enjoyed Nepalese coffee for years, particularly its citric and fruity notes, we felt compelled to delve deeper into this overlooked gem. Over the course of a year, we extensively researched Nepalese coffee and had the privilege of collaborating with BCU, a roasting company that was on the brink of closure due to internal challenges.
Durlung Coffee has since built partnerships with renowned distributors and enthusiasts worldwide who share our commitment to quality and sustainability. From boutique coffee shops to specialty roasters, our partners help us bring the unique flavors of Nepal to coffee lovers around the globe. Every cup of Durlung Coffee tells a story—of its origins in the Himalayan foothills, the dedication of our farmers, and the collaboration with like-minded partners who value exceptional coffee.
Inspecting the land, building relationships with farmers, and acquiring annual productions were pivotal steps. In 2024, we planted our own coffee on dedicated land, which includes one of the only farms in Nepal cultivating the rare Yellow Caturra coffee plant. By meticulously selecting the perfect beans from numerous samples, we created Durlung Coffee—a brand that embodies the essence of Nepal’s coffee heritage.
During this exploration, we discovered a startling fact: much of the "Nepalese coffee" exported is secretly blended with Indian coffee to meet export quotas due to Nepal’s limited production capacity. This realization further fueled our mission to create a brand that values transparency and authenticity. At Durlung Coffee, we are upfront about our production limits, which, while modest, make our coffee incredibly premium and rare.
